On July 4, 2025, a group of Antifa cell members launched a violent attack on the Prairieland Detention Center in North Texas, attempting to murder a law enforcement officer and using explosives and weapons. The attack was carried out by eight operatives, including Benjamin Hanil Song, who was convicted of attempted murder. The motive behind the attack was to target the ICE facility and law enforcement officers. The attack occurred just before the one-year anniversary of the incident, the defendants were sentenced to a combined total of 550 years in prison.
Benjamin Hanil Song, the leader of the Antifa cell, was sentenced to 100 years in prison for his role in the attack. Seven other defendants, including Maricela Rueda, Cameron Arnold, Savanna Batten, Zachary Evetts, Bradford Morris, Elizabeth Soto, and Daniel Rolando Sanchez-Estrada, were also sentenced to lengthy prison terms, ranging from 30 to 70 years. The sentences were handed down by the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, Ryan Raybould.
The Department of Justice has made it clear that it will aggressively investigate and prosecute those who engage in violent extremism and threaten law enforcement officers or undermine the rule of law. The case is also notable as it is the first sentencing of defendants affiliated with Antifa following President Donald J. Trump’s executive order designating the group as a Domestic Terrorist Organization in September 2025.
