⏱ 2 min read

A domestic violence call turned deadly on May 2, 2026, when Malik Williams, a convicted felon with a history of domestic violence, shot at Grand Prairie Police Department officers in Texas. Williams, who was on parole for six prior felonies, including five involving domestic violence against the same victim, was stopped by police after a child reported a physical altercation between Williams and his girlfriend. When officers approached, Williams sped off, leading to a high-speed chase that ended with a police maneuver to immobilize his vehicle.

As an officer approached the vehicle, Williams opened fire with an AR-15 rifle, prompting a second officer to return fire and strike Williams. He was taken to a hospital and later charged with unlawful possession of a firearm. The incident highlights the dangers faced by law enforcement officers and the need for swift action against those who would harm them.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Dallas Field Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Grand Prairie Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Walt Junker is prosecuting the case, which was announced by United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Ryan Raybould.

The case is a testament to the strong partnership between law enforcement agencies in North Texas and their commitment to rooting out violent crime. As U.S. Attorney Raybould stated, ‘We will always go after those who try to intimidate and harm our great law enforcement officers in North Texas.’
