A 42-year-old suburban Houston resident has been caught red-handed for the brutal slaughter of a protected bald eagle at his Porter home.
Santos Guerrero, 42, admitted to shooting the majestic bird at his residence on October 11, 2024, in a shocking display of disregard for federal law.
Guerrero’s heinous crime was exposed after authorities responded to reports of the incident and obtained video footage of the eagle being shot and falling from a tree.
The eagle was initially transported to an animal hospital, but unfortunately, it had to be euthanized due to its severe injuries, including a fractured wing, liver fractures, internal bleeding, and a shattered leg.
The Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act prohibits the killing, possessing, selling, or transporting of bald eagles, even though they are no longer listed as endangered.
Guerrero is set to face up to a year in federal prison and a $100,000 fine when he is sentenced on July 30.
