A brutal string of ATM robberies dubbed the ‘Hook and Chain’ burglaries has finally come to an end in the Eastern District of Texas. Over two years, Cody Williams, 27, from Houston, ripped off multiple banks in Texas and Arizona, leaving a trail of destruction and a total loss of over $400,000.
Williams and his co-conspirators used a truck to drag the doors off ATMs, hooking them up with chains to get at the cash inside. The most recent heist took place in Prosper, Texas, at the Texas Bank on South Preston Road.
Williams’ crime spree went on from June 2020 to June 2024, with the FBI, Fort Worth Police, and Pottsboro Police leading the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew T. Johnson handled the case in court.
On April 15, 2026, U.S. District Judge Sean D. Jordan sentenced Williams to 60 months in federal prison, ordering him to pay $71,639 in restitution.
