Anahi Sanchez, a 28-year-old woman from Big Lake, Texas, has been sentenced to 24 years in federal prison for her role in a transnational fentanyl smuggling operation. On April 4, 2022, Sanchez attempted to cross the border at the Del Rio Port of Entry, driving a Chevrolet Camaro with her son. She claimed they were returning from a family visit in Mexico, but a vehicle inspection revealed 30 packages of fentanyl hidden in the car, weighing 18 kilograms.
Sanchez was found to be a regular and trusted courier for a transnational criminal organization, making numerous border crossings with narcotics. In total, she was held accountable for approximately 130 kilograms of fentanyl, which she would transport to the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area.
Sanchez pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl on December 16, 2022. Her sentence is the result of a Homeland Security Task Force investigation, which uncovered her involvement in the fentanyl trafficking conspiracy.
