⏱ 2 min read

Abraham Romo-Rivera, 39, and Amairani Munoz-Molinar, 29, two lawful permanent residents from Mexico, attempted to smuggle a juvenile and another individual through the Paso Del Norte Port of Entry in El Paso, Texas on June 7. The duo presented false identification documents to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers, claiming the passengers were Romo-Rivera’s son and daughter. However, the officers noticed discrepancies and referred the vehicle to secondary inspection, where the truth began to unravel.

Further investigation revealed that Romo-Rivera was to be paid $10,000 to smuggle the illegal aliens into the U.S. A search of Munoz-Molinar yielded a manila envelope containing the actual Mexican birth certificates and passports of the two passengers, exposing the smuggling scheme.

Romo-Rivera and Munoz-Molinar were arrested and charged with human smuggling. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat human trafficking and smuggling at the U.S.-Mexico border.

The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas, Justin R. Simmons, announced the charges, which carry serious consequences for those involved in human smuggling. As the investigation continues, the community is reminded of the importance of reporting suspicious activity to prevent such crimes.
