Antjuan Lamont Gaines, Motel Shooting, Oklahoma 2023

OKLAHOMA CITY – In a stunning turn of events, Antjuan Lamont Gaines, 47, has been handed a 162-month federal prison sentence for his role in a motel shooting and possession of illegal firearms and methamphetamine. According to U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester, the Oklahoma City native’s actions led to a series of violent confrontations that left one woman’s life in danger.

On June 12, 2024, police were called to a local motel where a harrowing shooting incident took place. The victim reported being fired upon by an unknown individual as she attempted to leave the premises. Gaines was later identified as the shooter from another vehicle, though no one was injured in the exchange.

The investigation led to a search warrant for Gaines’s room, which resulted in the seizure of over 140 grams of methamphetamine and a firearm. Prior to this incident, Gaines had already been convicted of multiple felonies, including motor vehicle larceny, assault on a police officer, and drug possession.

Gaines faced federal charges of possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute and being a felon in possession of a firearm following an indictment by a grand jury. He pleaded guilty on January 8, 2025, acknowledging the severity of his actions. Chief U.S. District Judge Timothy D. DeGiusti sentenced Gaines on July 22, 2025, for the crime.

This case was investigated by the FBI Oklahoma City Field Office and the Oklahoma City Police Department. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Laney Ellis, a grant-funded attorney from the City of Oklahoma City’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program, prosecuted the case.

Operation Shots Fired, an initiative under PSN aimed at reducing gun violence and enforcing federal firearms laws, played a significant role in this prosecution.
