Failure to Pay Child Support Lands Arkansas Man in Hot Water
A 38-year-old man from Arkansas has been brought to justice after pleading guilty to failing to pay child support. Jacob H. Lehnherr, of Little Rock, Arkansas appeared before U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier on June 10, 2013 and pled guilty to the charges.
According to court documents, Lehnherr was ordered by the Second Judicial Circuit Court, Minnehaha County, South Dakota to pay $346.67 per month for his minor child, commencing May 1, 2001. However, he had not made a child support payment since July of 2010, before making payments in June and July of 2012.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is two years imprisonment; a $250,000.00 fine; one year supervised release; one additional year of custody upon revocation; a $100.00 assessment fee; and child support restitution amount owing at the time of sentencing.
The investigation was conducted by the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas J. Wright.
A presentence investigation was ordered and a sentencing date was set for August 29, 2013. The defendant was released on bond pending sentencing.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fulfilling one’s financial obligations, particularly when it comes to supporting one’s children. The court’s decision to prosecute Lehnherr sends a clear message that failure to pay child support will not be taken lightly.
