Armando Jose Flores Jr. Sentenced to 10 Years for Child Pornography

The dark world of child sexual abuse material has claimed another victim. Armando Jose Flores Jr., a 41-year-old Mercedes resident, has been sentenced to a decade in federal prison for downloading and possessing child pornography.

According to the United States Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei, Flores pleaded guilty on July 10, 2024, to receiving child pornography. U.S. District Judge Drew B. Tipton, however, handed down a harsher sentence of 121 months in federal prison. The court also ordered Flores to serve five years on supervised release, restricting his access to children and the internet.

This is not the first time Flores has been accused of such heinous crimes. Authorities discovered that he had been accessing child pornography through peer-to-peer networks for multiple years. The investigation, led by the FBI, revealed that Flores had downloaded and stored 90 GB of child sexual abuse material across five devices. The material consisted of over 4,500 images and videos, including bondage, bestiality, and infants/toddlers.

The investigation began on January 9, 2024, when law enforcement identified a computer making videos of child sexual abuse material available for download through a peer-to-peer file-sharing program. The computer’s IP address was registered to an address belonging to Flores in Mercedes. Following a federal search warrant executed in February 2024, authorities seized four electronic devices, each containing child pornography downloaded between May 1, 2022, and October 31, 2022.

Flores will remain in custody pending transfer to a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexa D. Parcell is prosecuting the case.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of child sexual abuse material and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable. As the nation continues to grapple with the epidemic of child sexual exploitation, it is crucial that we support efforts to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who engage in such heinous crimes.
