Monte Decarlos Winston, Armed Robbery, Virginia 2025

⏱ 2 min read

A 56-year-old Richmond man with a 13-year track record of violence is headed for a life sentence after being convicted of two more armed robberies. Monte Decarlos Winston struck twice in February 2025 – first at a Valero gas station in Henrico County on February 12, and then at The Beauty Zone, a beauty supply company in Chesterfield County, on February 18.

Winston’s rap sheet already included a 2003 conviction for armed robbery, brandishing a firearm, and possession of cocaine, which landed him behind bars for 13 years and five months. He was back behind bars multiple times in the years that followed for violating the terms of his supervised release.

Prosecutors say Winston’s crimes put innocent lives at risk. ‘Armed robberies are some of the most violent crimes we see,’ said Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen W. Miller. ‘We’re glad to have secured a conviction and look forward to seeing Winston held accountable for his actions.’

Winston is set to be sentenced on July 30 and faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 50 years. A federal judge will decide the final sentence.
