A Dumfries man is headed back to prison after a botched fight at a Woodbridge gas station. Jonathan Daniel Smith, 23, fired a handgun during a July 21, 2025, brawl at a gas station in Woodbridge, VA.
Smith, a convicted felon, was recognized by Prince William County Police from footage of the incident and pursued on July 24, 2025. During the chase, he attempted to hide the loaded handgun, which contained 15 rounds of ammunition in an extended magazine, under a parked car.
Witnesses directed law enforcement to the handgun’s location, and a comparative analysis confirmed that a shell casing recovered from the shooting had been fired from Smith’s handgun.
On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Virginia sentenced Smith to three years in prison for possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.
