A Chesapeake nurse, Michelle Kollmar, 56, got caught stealing painkillers from patients suffering from cancer and sickle-cell anemia at a healthcare facility in Virginia. Between January 2023 and March 2024, Kollmar used patients’ personal info to access automated prescription machines and divert vials of hydromorphone.
She’d replace the vials with syringes, often containing water or diluted Dilaudid, and even accessed the machines when she wasn’t on the clock. Lab tests revealed some of the syringes were water, while one contained a suspiciously diluted dose of hydromorphone.
Kollmar tested positive for the painkiller and admitted to using it. The investigation involved the FDA, DEA, and Virginia State Police. She’s facing up to 15 years in prison and will be sentenced on August 27.
