A masked suspect dropped a gun in a desperate bid to shake off cops in Waterloo, Iowa, on October 1, 2025. Darrell Jawon Wilson, 18, was wanted on the streets after a frantic 911 call reported two men casing cars in the area. Officers swooped in and found the duo. Wilson took off like a shot, but a cop was hot on his heels and spotted the gun in his waistline.
As Wilson struggled to keep his feet, he lost his grip on the firearm. It landed on the pavement. The cop closed in, and Wilson was hauled in. The gun was later recovered from the pursuit route.
Wilson’s rap sheet already boasted felony convictions for conspiracy to commit a forcible felony and going armed with intent. On top of that, the young felon was busted for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Assistant U.S. Attorney Devra T. Hake is leading the prosecution, with the ATF and Waterloo PD on the case.
Wilson is staring down 15 years behind bars, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release. His sentencing is pending a presentence report. The case is part of the Justice Department’s Operation Take Back America, aimed at combating cartels, transnational crime, and violent crime in communities nationwide.
