COLUMBUS, Ohio – A brazen armored truck thief has pleaded guilty to swindling over $220,000 from PNC ATMs in a series of daring heists.
Justin Eskridge, 37, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, admitted in U.S. District Court to embezzling the cash as a bank agent for Loomis LLC, a company that transports money to bank branches and ATMs.
Eskridge, an armed service technician for Loomis, delivered cash for and to federally insured financial institutions, including PNC Bank, which contracted with Loomis to transport money to various ATMs and bank branches.
The thefts began on December 14, 2022, and continued through January 9, 2023, with PNC bank tellers reporting shortages totaling approximately $226,000 in cash when they balanced the residual amounts on certain ATMs.
An investigation by Loomis identified Eskridge as the technician servicing that route and revealed that he had hidden approximately $144,000 in cash in his car.
As part of his plea, Eskridge will pay the remaining balance to Loomis. The theft or embezzlement by a bank employee or agent is a federal crime punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
The guilty plea was announced by Kenneth L. Parker, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, and Elena Iatarola, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Cincinnati Division.
Assistant United States Attorney Damoun Delaviz is representing the United States in this case.
