Abdirahman Abdi Abdullahi, a 23-year-old Eden Prairie man, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for setting fire to a townhome in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, while five people, including an infant, were inside. The incident occurred on May 31, 2024, at 11:27 a.m., when Abdullahi, who was on probation for violating a restraining order, used a gas can to douse a bag of clothes and set it on fire at the entrance of the home. The fire destroyed the home, damaged neighboring townhomes, and put the lives of the occupants at risk.
According to court documents, Abdullahi had sent a threatening message to the mother of one of the children, stating ‘when I see u I’m smoke u,’ two days before the fire. He also arrived at the door of the house and threatened to kill her on the same day. On the day of the fire, Abdullahi rented a car, filled a gas can with gasoline, and wore plastic gloves to carry out the arson attack.
The Eden Prairie Fire Department responded to the fire and found the infant, who was still inside the burning house, and transported the child to the hospital. Abdullahi pleaded guilty to Arson Resulting in Personal Injury and was sentenced to 180 months in prison.
The sentence reflects the severity of the crime and the risk posed to the lives of the occupants, including the infant. The case was investigated by the Eden Prairie Fire Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota.
