A Minneapolis man, Abdisatar Ahmed Hassan, 23, was sentenced to 8.5 years in federal prison for trying to aid ISIS, a designated foreign terrorist organization.
According to court documents, Hassan started consuming pro-ISIS propaganda online as early as 2024, downloading violent videos and manuals on making explosives.
Hassan openly posted his desire for jihad on social media, contacted online schools for gunsmithing and drone tech, and researched ISIS-inspired attacks.
He also had extensive online communications with ISIS recruiters in Somalia, even requesting help to establish an Islamic caliphate.
Hassan was caught and sentenced to 102 months in prison, plus 15 years of supervised release.
