A 19-year-old Minneapolis man’s joyride to a high school graduation ended in disaster after police found a machine gun in his car during a routine traffic stop.
Amiir Mawlid Ali, 19, was arrested after officers discovered the firearm in his vehicle, equipped with a machine gun conversion device and an extended magazine loaded with over 30 rounds of ammunition.
A firearm expert testified that the machine gun could fire 15 bullets in just 2 seconds, making it a deadly threat to innocent bystanders.
Ali tried to flee the scene but was apprehended by police before he could escape.
A federal jury convicted Ali of possessing a machine gun, a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
