A devastating crash on a rural Minnesota road claimed the life of 38-year-old Amanda Boshey on December 17, 2024. Eric Peterson, 51, struck and killed Boshey while driving on Lake Vermilion Reservation Road near the Fortune Bay Casino on the Bois Forte Indian Reservation. Peterson was leaving the casino, intoxicated, when he hit Boshey on foot.

After a four-day trial in Duluth, Minnesota, a federal jury found Peterson guilty of one count of criminal vehicular homicide. The jury determined that Peterson was driving negligently while under the influence of alcohol.

Peterson was acquitted on an additional charge of criminal vehicular homicide while having an alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more. The verdict was a major victory for law enforcement, who credit a joint investigation with the FBI, BCA, Minnesota State Patrol, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Nett Lake Tribal Police, St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, and Virginia Police Department.
