William Michael Haslach, a 30-year-old former employee of two Minnesota school districts, has pleaded guilty to using AI technology to produce sexual abuse images of children in his care. Haslach, of Maplewood, Minnesota, worked as a lunch monitor, traffic guard, paraprofessional, and youth summer programs assistant for Independent School District #622 and ISD #834 from 2021 to 2025. He used his access to take non-explicit photos of children, which he then used to create over 690 morphed images of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct using AI technology.
Haslach admitted to creating obscene visual representations of at least 91 minor victims. He also admitted to secretly photographing a pre-pubescent minor’s genital area while she was wearing a swimsuit. Fortunately, there is no evidence that Haslach distributed or shared the images he created.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The U.S. Attorney’s Office has set up a website to provide resources and information to parents of children who may have been under Haslach’s care.
The use of AI technology to produce child sex abuse images is a growing concern, and Haslach’s case highlights the need for increased vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies to prevent such crimes.
