Ian Carlton Alexander, Cocaine Distribution, Maryland 2024

Greenbelt, Maryland – The grim reaper of the streets, Ian Carlton Alexander, also known as ‘Shawn Alexander’, aged 50, from Towson, received a severe sentence: 61 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release. This comes after Alexander’s conviction for possession with intent to distribute cocaine and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

\\

United States Attorney Erek L. Barron announced the sentence, alongside law enforcement officials from various agencies including DEA, USPIS, Montgomery County Police, Prince George’s County Police, Metropolitan Police Department, and Baltimore County Police.

\\

A guilty plea revealed Alexander’s October 2019 trip to New York with plans to distribute nearly two kilograms of cocaine. His journey back home ended at a traffic stop where he was caught red-handed with the drugs and a firearm in his car.

\\

Further investigation led to a search warrant at Alexander’s residence, where law enforcement found more than 28 grams of heroin, an assault rifle, and ammunition designed for piercing armor. The street-wise dealer knew full well that as a result of a previous felony conviction, he was barred from possessing firearms or ammunition.

\\

This case is part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), a formidable force against criminal networks. United States Attorney Erek L. Barron commended all agencies involved and thanked Assistant U.S. Attorney Caitlin R. Cottingham and Special Assistant United States Attorney Coreen Mao for their prosecution efforts.

\\

Ian Alexander’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the harsh penalties faced by those who deal in death on our streets. The Grimy Times will continue to report on such incidents, ensuring justice is served.
