Baltimore Man Guilty of Sex Trafficking Minor

A Baltimore man has pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit sex trafficking of a minor, federal authorities announced today.

Derrel Pitts, 27, also known as ‘Foolish,’ admitted to conspiring with a prostitute and others to traffic a 17-year-old girl in Baltimore County, Maryland, between November 2014 and February 19, 2015.

Pitts was arrested on February 19, 2015, after members of the Maryland Child Exploitation Task Force, which included officers from the Baltimore County Police and the Maryland State Police, rescued the victim at a motel in Towson, Maryland.

According to court documents, Pitts instructed the minor victim on pricing for different sexual activities and received a portion of the money the victim earned from sex customers. He also rented a motel room and used his cell phone to post photographs of the minor victim on an online website advertising her for prostitution.

Pitts faces 78-96 months in prison and will be required to register as a sex offender under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). He is scheduled to be sentenced on August 18, 2016, at 9:30 a.m. in U.S. District Court.

The case was investigated by the FBI-led Maryland Child Exploitation Task Force, which includes members from 10 state and federal law enforcement agencies. The Task Force coordinates with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Maryland State Police Child Recovery Unit to identify missing children being advertised online for prostitution.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the FBI, Baltimore County Police Department, Maryland State Police, and Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office for their work in the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ayn B. Ducao is prosecuting the case.
