BALTIMORE, MD – The grim saga of gun violence in Baltimore reached a new chapter as Delantae Phillips, 37, was indicted for illegal possession of a firearm while under a domestic violence restraining order. According to federal prosecutors, Phillips brazenly flaunted the law on May 24, 2025, when he was caught with a Glock model 21 semi-automatic handgun loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition.
The Baltimore U.S. Attorney’s Office, led by Kelly O. Hayes, announced the indictment alongside Special Agent in Charge Charles Doerrer of the ATF and Commissioner Richard Worley of the BPD. Hayes emphasized the importance of keeping firearms out of the hands of those prohibited from owning them, a mission that aims to prevent violence and save lives.
Under the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization Act of 2022 (VAWA), Baltimore is one of 78 communities nationwide prioritizing the reduction of intimate partner firearm violence. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland is collaborating with local and state partners to combat this issue, ensuring that federal resources are effectively used.
“We are committed to working with our state and local partners to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers,” Doerrer stated, highlighting the collaborative efforts of law enforcement in these cases.
This indictment is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which brings together all levels of law enforcement and communities to reduce violent crime and gun violence. The program’s strategy focuses on fostering community trust, supporting prevention organizations, strategic enforcement, and measuring results.
Hayes commended the ATF and BPD for their collaborative efforts in this investigation, thanking Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathleen Godwin and Assistant U.S. Attorney LaRai Everett for their prosecution of the case.
