Baltimore Man Exiled To 10 Years In Prison On Drug Offense

A Baltimore man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a heroin trafficking operation. Taji Hart, 32, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute heroin.

According to court documents, on July 27, 2012, police officers stopped a vehicle driven by Hart in the 2100 block of West Saratoga Street after receiving information about a fight involving a man with a handgun. When officers searched the vehicle, they found a loaded .40 caliber Glock handgun and a plastic bag containing nine gel capsules of heroin.

Hart, a career offender with five previous drug convictions, admitted to possessing the heroin with the intent to distribute it. The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein, Special Agent in Charge Steven L. Gerido of the ATF – Baltimore Field Division, Baltimore City State’s Attorney Gregg L. Bernstein, and Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony W. Batts.

U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the ATF, Baltimore Police Department and Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office for their work in the investigation. Mr. Rosenstein also thanked Special Assistant United States Attorney H. Brandis Marsh, Jr. for prosecuting the case.

The sentence includes three years of supervised release following Hart’s prison term. The case was a collaborative effort between local law enforcement agencies and federal authorities to combat heroin trafficking in the Baltimore area.

The case serves as a reminder of the dangers of heroin and the importance of law enforcement efforts to combat the opioid epidemic. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
