Jennifer Lamanna, Embezzlement, Florida 2023

Tampa, FL – In a stunning turn of events, Jennifer Lamanna, 49, from Venice, has pleaded guilty to embezzling nearly $300,000 from a local bank. The former banker faces up to 35 years in federal prison after admitting to stealing cash from the Venice branch’s vault and manipulating accounts to cover her tracks.

Lamanna was granted sole access to the bank vault due to reduced staffing during the COVID-19 pandemic. She began siphoning funds in 2020 using a contingency cash bag, later continuing the theft even after the program ended. The money was funneled into an account under her control, totaling $255,362.

To hide her misdeeds, Lamanna made substantial withdrawals from a customer’s account and matched them with fictitious deposits. She also filed false Currency Transaction Reports to make these sham transactions appear legitimate. On June 8, 2023, she furthered her deception by submitting a false Currency Transaction Report to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network.

Investigation into Lamanna’s crimes was led by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation – Office of Inspector General and the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation, Tampa field office. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Chris Poor.

Lamanna has agreed to forfeit $280,000 as a result of her criminal conduct. Sentencing has been scheduled at a later date. This conviction serves as a stark reminder of the lengths some will go to in pursuit of financial gain over integrity.
