Pine Ridge Man Sentenced for Abusive Sexual Contact

Benton Rowland, a 36-year-old man from Pine Ridge, South Dakota, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for Abusive Sexual Contact.

According to a recent investigation, Rowland engaged in sexual contact with a child under the age of 12 between 2008 and 2014 at Pine Ridge and Manderson, South Dakota.

Rowland was indicted by a federal grand jury in November 2016, and the charge related to his actions between 2008 and 2014.

The case was investigated by the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan Poppen prosecuted the case, and Rowland was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on March 26, 2021.

As part of his sentence, Rowland was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

He was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after his sentencing.
