Beulaville Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Receiving Child Pornography
Raleigh – A Beulaville man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for receiving child pornography, announced the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
JOHN EDWARD RYAN, JR., 60, was sentenced by Chief United States District Judge James C. Dever to 240 months imprisonment followed by a lifetime of supervised release.
Ryan pleaded guilty on October 5, 2015, to receipt of child pornography, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2252(a)(2).
A federal investigation was initiated in July 2014, after an Internet Protocol (IP) address was identified and linked to the distribution and receipt of child pornography through a peer-to-peer file sharing network. The subscriber assigned to the IP address was identified as Ryan, and a search warrant was executed at his residence on September 3, 2014.
An initial onsite preview at Ryan’s residence revealed the presence of child pornography on his computer. Forensic examination of the defendant’s computer and media storage devices revealed approximately 2,415 images and 1,072 videos depicting child pornography. Ryan acknowledged receiving and possessing child pornography, and family members later informed investigators that he had previously molested his adopted daughter and step-granddaughter.
