Boniface Denton Buchanan, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Alabama 2025

MOBILE, ALABAMA – In a devastating blow to the methamphetamine trade in north Baldwin County, two convicted felons have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms for their roles in distributing the deadly drug.

According to court documents, Boniface Denton Buchanan, 56, and Samuel Earl Crook, Jr., 43, both of Bay Minette, Alabama, admitted to distributing bulk amounts of methamphetamine to various individuals between May 2023 and November 2023. The duo’s illicit operation was brought to a grinding halt after narcotics agents, using confidential informants, purchased methamphetamine from the pair on multiple occasions.

On November 8, 2023, agents executed search warrants at the residences of Buchanan and Crook, uncovering a treasure trove of evidence pointing to their involvement in the methamphetamine trade. At Buchanan’s home, agents found methamphetamine and a loaded shotgun, which he subsequently admitted was in his possession despite having multiple prior felony convictions. When agents tried to interview Buchanan, he responded with a defiant “I’ll do my time.”

Crook, on the other hand, was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, MDMA, and blue “Roxy” pills at his trailer. He also admitted to selling several pounds of methamphetamine with Buchanan. Agents discovered a 9mm pistol in his bedroom and over $33,000 in cash in his truck, which Crook admitted were proceeds from his illicit activities. Like Buchanan, Crook also had prior felony convictions, making it illegal for him to possess firearms.

In a bid to dismantle the duo’s operation, Judge Terry F. Moorer sentenced Buchanan to 235 months in prison and Crook to 60 months. Both defendants will also serve five-year terms of supervised release upon their release from prison, during which time they will be subject to drug testing and treatment. The court did not impose a fine but ordered the defendants to pay a total of $400 in special assessments.

The investigation into Buchanan and Crook’s operation was a collaborative effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Roller prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
