Between June 26 and July 3, a staggering 259 individuals were charged with immigration and border security-related crimes in Southern Texas. The accused, including Guatemalan and Mexican nationals, were found in areas such as La Grulla and McAllen, with many having prior convictions for serious offenses like rape, narcotics, and violent crimes. Authorities discovered that many of these individuals had been previously removed from the United States, only to reenter illegally.
Among those charged with felony reentry are Jelber Botello-Hernandez, a Guatemalan national with a prior conviction for rape of a child, and Rogelio Rodriguez-Jaimes, a Mexican national with a prior conviction for unlawful transportation of firearms. Additionally, Armando Almaguer-Trejo and Eva Karina Gomez-Salazar, both Mexican nationals, were found to have prior convictions for DUI with a child and drug trafficking, respectively.
The cases, which include 188 felony reentry complaints, 40 illegal entry charges, and 26 human smuggling allegations, are being supported by federal law enforcement partners such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the FBI, DEA, and ATF. If convicted of felony reentry after removal, the accused face up to 20 years in federal prison.
The surge in immigration and border security-related crimes in Southern Texas highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in the region. With the help of state and local agencies, federal authorities are working to combat these crimes and bring perpetrators to justice.
