Dominique Carpenter-Grady, a 36-year-old member of the violent Boston-based H-Block gang, was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison for his role in a conspiracy to smuggle PCP and synthetic cannabinoids into a Massachusetts prison. The sentencing took place on June 15, 2026, in federal court in Boston, and is part of a larger investigation into gang-related activity in the area. Carpenter-Grady, also known as ‘8 Zipp’ or ‘Eight’, pleaded guilty to the charges in February 2026. The investigation, which began in response to an uptick in gang-related violence and drug trafficking, has resulted in the seizure of over 500 grams of cocaine, crack cocaine, and fentanyl, as well as over 20,000 doses of drug-laced paper.
Carpenter-Grady was one of 10 H-Block gang members and associates charged in August 2024, following a multi-year investigation into the gang’s activities. The H-Block gang, originally formed in the 1980s as the Humboldt Raiders, has a history of violent confrontation with law enforcement, including a 2015 incident in which a member shot a Boston Police officer at point blank range without warning or provocation.
The conspiracy to smuggle drugs into the prison involved coordinating with other gang members who were incarcerated, using intercepted calls to plan the smuggling of PCP and K2 on saturated papers. The seized papers were found to contain significant amounts of the illicit substances, with a single sheet estimated to be worth as much as $80,000 inside the prison. The Massachusetts Department of Correction has seen a significant increase in the smuggling of synthetic cannabinoids, also known as ‘K2’, in recent years.
Carpenter-Grady’s sentencing is a significant blow to the H-Block gang’s operations, and is part of a larger effort by law enforcement to disrupt and dismantle the organization. The investigation and prosecution of the case were handled by federal authorities, including the FBI, and demonstrate the ongoing commitment to addressing gang-related violence and drug trafficking in the Boston area.
