Boston – A Boston man has pleaded guilty in federal court for failing to register as a sex offender, marking a significant development in the city’s ongoing struggle against sexual predators. Adrian Martinez, 56, admitted his guilt before U.S. District Court Judge Leo T. Sorokin and is scheduled for sentencing on October 28, 2025.
Martinez, who was convicted of sodomy, assault, and intent to rape a minor under the age of 12 while serving in the United States Navy in April 1998, faces up to 10 years in prison for his latest offense. The defendant’s release from a 40-year sentence in February 2009 required him to register as a sex offender and update his information upon any changes.
After being released, Martinez moved out of his Boston residence on or after September 30, 2022, without notifying law enforcement. His subsequent arrest and charge came in April 2025 following unsuccessful attempts by Boston Police to contact him. The city’s efforts to locate Martinez underscore the urgency of compliance with sex offender registration laws.
Should he be sentenced at the maximum, Martinez could also face a minimum of five years and up to lifetime supervised release, along with a fine of $250,000. Sentences will be determined by a federal district court judge according to U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other relevant factors.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Kevin Neal, Acting United States Marshal for the District of Massachusetts, announced the charges against Martinez. Assistant U.S. Attorney Luke A. Goldworm is handling the prosecution as part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative established in 2006 to combat child exploitation.
The Project Safe Childhood website, www.projectsafechildhood.gov, provides more information on the nationwide effort to protect children from such predators. Martinez’s case is a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against sexual offenders and the importance of enforcing registration requirements.
