A horrific crime unfolded in York, PA, on August 20, 2019, when 34-year-old Adrian Moye left a loaded handgun unattended in a vehicle with a 5-year-old boy. The gun was accidentally discharged, killing the child. Moye, a previously convicted felon, was prohibited from possessing firearms due to his history of drug-trafficking offenses.
Moye’s troubles only deepened as investigators discovered he also possessed cocaine with the intent to distribute. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the York City Police Department collaborated on the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Carlo D. Marchioli.
On the day of sentencing, United States District Judge Jennifer P. Wilson handed down a 210-month prison term to Moye for his crimes. The sentence reflects the severity of Moye’s actions and the devastating consequences that followed.
The case highlights the dangers of unsecured firearms and the importance of enforcing laws against felons possessing guns. It also underscores the ongoing struggle against cocaine distribution and the need for continued cooperation between law enforcement agencies.
