A Bronx native, Errol Richards, 42, is behind bars after a stash of 47.2 grams of cocaine was found on him in Burlington, Vermont.
Law enforcement arrested Richards on September 11, 2026, while serving an outstanding state warrant, and discovered the cocaine during the arrest.
Richards entered a plea of not guilty to the charges during an arraignment on April 22, 2026, before United States Magistrate Judge Kevin J. Doyle. He was subsequently ordered to be detained during the pendency of the case.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office emphasizes that an indictment contains allegations only and that Richards is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Richmond faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted, but the actual sentence would be determined by the District Court with guidance from the advisory United States Sentencing Guidelines and the statutory sentencing factors.
