Two brothers from Brockton, Massachusetts, orchestrated a brazen heist at the Energy Credit Union in West Roxbury, making off with $197,146. The robbery occurred on September 24, 2024, and was staged by Jenel Flounoury, 30, and his brother Justin Flounoury, 34. Jenel, who worked as a teller at the credit union, conspired with his brother to carry out the crime. The motive behind the heist is still unclear, but the execution was elaborate, with Justin entering the credit union wearing a disguise and handing Jenel a note demanding cash.
According to the investigation, Justin entered the credit union wearing a hat, dark clothing, sunglasses, and a mask. He approached the teller window, where Jenel was working, and handed him a note that read ‘Hand it Over.’ Instead of providing the limited cash in his drawer, Jenel got up and entered the credit union’s vault, gathering nearly $200,000 in cash. He then placed the cash in a bag and handed it to Justin, who left the credit union with the stolen money.
The brothers’ attempts to cover their tracks were unsuccessful, as cellphone records showed Justin traveling back to their shared residence after the heist. Surveillance footage also captured the brothers burning dark-colored clothing, consistent with the attire worn by the ‘robber,’ in a grill at their home. A subsequent search of their residence turned up over $160,000 in cash, including 10 $100 bills with serial numbers matching those stolen from the credit union vault.
Jenel and Justin Flounoury pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit larceny from a credit union on July 24, 2026. They are scheduled to be sentenced on October 19, 2026, and face up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine. The case highlights the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies and financial institutions in preventing and investigating financial crimes.
