Two Broward County residents, Bruce McFadden Sr., 50, of Lauderdale Lakes, and his son Bruce McFadden Jr., 33, of Fort Lauderdale, have been indicted on federal explosives charges. The duo is accused of receiving explosive materials without a license or permit and improperly storing them.
According to the court record, including allegations contained in the indictment, the McFaddens knowingly transported and received fireworks containing black powder, flash powder, perchlorate explosive mixtures, and pyrotechnic compositions. Bruce McFadden Sr., who has a prior felony conviction, is also charged with being a felon in possession of explosives.
The brothers appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Patrick M. Hunt today. McFadden Sr. faces a pre-trial detention hearing on March 14, 2017, while his son is scheduled for a bond hearing on March 10, 2017.
Acting U.S. Attorney Benjamin G. Greenberg commended the ATF’s investigative efforts and thanked local law enforcement agencies for their assistance in the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rilwan Adeduntan is prosecuting the case.
An Indictment contains only allegations, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
