Brian Nicholas Koch, a 28-year-old Moberly man, attempted to carjack a woman at the Jefferson City Memorial Airport in Callaway County on April 28, 2026. Koch, who had abandoned his heavily damaged vehicle in the airport parking lot, approached the victim in her Toyota 4Runner and threatened her with a starter pistol and a large machete. The victim managed to drive away, and law enforcement arrived minutes later to apprehend Koch. Koch had recently completed a Missouri prison sentence for first-degree robbery and was on pre-trial bond for committing violence to an employee of the Missouri Department of Corrections.
The indictment against Koch is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating violent crime and protecting communities from perpetrators. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nick Komoroski and investigated by the Jefferson City Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.
Koch’s alleged actions demonstrate a disturbing pattern of violent behavior, and his indictment is a significant step towards holding him accountable. The fact that he was on pre-trial bond for a separate violent crime at the time of the carjacking attempt raises concerns about the effectiveness of the justice system in preventing repeat offenses.
The case against Koch will now proceed to trial, where a federal jury will determine his guilt or innocence. If convicted, Koch faces significant prison time for the carjacking charge, which could be enhanced by his prior convictions and alleged violent behavior.
