BEAUMONT, Texas – In a stunning turn of events, Carl Sampson Solomon, a 43-year-old Port Arthur resident, has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone on July 9, 2025.
Solomon’s downfall began on March 27, 2024, when he was detained for a traffic violation along Gulfway Drive in Port Arthur. During the stop, Solomon confessed to having a firearm holstered under his seat. A subsequent search of his vehicle yielded the firearm and a small baggie containing marijuana.
Further investigation by authorities revealed that Solomon had five previous felony convictions and was on probation at the time of the arrest. Federal law strictly prohibits felons from owning or possessing firearms, making Solomon’s actions particularly egregious.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and safeguarding communities from violent crime. The operation leverages resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
Local law enforcement agencies, including the Port Arthur Police Department, along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosive (ATF), investigated Solomon’s case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Quinn was responsible for the prosecution.
