Cast Lucas, Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl, Florida 2022

Dealer’s Fentanyl Bust Lands Him 10 Years Behind Bars

A Deerfield Beach man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a fentanyl trafficking operation. Cast Lucas, 36, was found guilty of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, a felony offense in the state of Florida.

The arrest took place on August 18, 2022, when Lucas attempted to sell fentanyl to a confidential informant at a gas station in Deerfield Beach. Law enforcement officials were able to track Lucas and apprehend him before the sale could be completed, recovering fentanyl from his possession at the time of his arrest.

Lucas’s troubles with the law date back further than this recent arrest, however. He has been convicted of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute on two separate occasions, which led to an enhanced sentence in this case.

U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe and Special Agent in Charge Deanne L. Reuter of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) announced the sentencing. The DEA’s West Palm Beach Office, along with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and the Broward Sheriff’s Office, assisted in the investigation.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Shannon O’Shea Darsch prosecuted the case. Related court documents and information can be found on the website of the District Court for the Southern District of Florida at www.flsd.uscourts.gov or at http://pacer.flsd.uscourts.gov.

This case serves as a reminder of the dangers of fentanyl and the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to combat the opioid epidemic. Cast Lucas will now spend the next decade behind bars for his role in this crime.
