Tampa Man Pleads Guilty to Theft of Government Funds, Faces 10 Years in Federal Prison
Tampa, Florida – Charles Clark, a 38-year-old Tampa resident, has pleaded guilty to the theft of government funds, officials announced today. Clark faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a sentencing date has not yet been set.
According to the plea agreement, on March 12, 2015, Clark sold an $82,000 stolen U.S. Treasury check to a person acting in an undercover capacity with the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation. Clark did not have permission to sell the check from the U.S. Treasury, or from the person to whom the check had been issued.
The case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service Office – Criminal Investigation, who worked tirelessly to bring Clark to justice. The investigation revealed that Clark was involved in a scheme to steal government funds and sell them on the black market.
Assistant United States Attorney Rachel K. Jones is prosecuting the case, which is a testament to her dedication to ensuring that those who commit financial crimes are held accountable for their actions.
The guilty plea is a significant blow to Clark’s chances of avoiding a lengthy prison sentence. With the maximum penalty of 10 years hanging over his head, Clark will have to face the consequences of his actions.
The people of Tampa can rest a little easier knowing that a thief has been brought to justice. The guilty plea is a victory for the community and a reminder that those who commit financial crimes will be caught and punished.
