Buffalo, NY – In a significant blow to organized crime, a Cheektowaga woman has been sentenced for her role in a money laundering conspiracy.
Nannette Brown, 47, was convicted of conspiracy to commit money laundering and sentenced to two years probation and a $500.00 fine by Chief U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny. The case highlights the importance of disrupting and dismantling organized crime networks.
According to U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr., those who assist criminals are just as guilty as those who commit the initial offense. In this case, Brown conspired with her son, Tyshawn Bradley, to use the proceeds of his cocaine distribution network to purchase real estate in Buffalo.
Brown admitted to purchasing four properties in her name to conceal her son as the true owner. The properties in question include 8 Norway Park, 16 Cornwall Avenue, 514 Dodge Street, and 33 Gerhardt Street.
Brown was one of 11 defendants arrested in April 2013 and charged with conspiracy to traffic 280 grams or more of crack cocaine and 500 grams or more of cocaine within the Perry Housing Projects. All 11 defendants have been convicted.
The case was the result of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) joint investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Safe Streets Task Force, the Buffalo Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
The OCDETF program aims to identify, disrupt, and dismantle the most serious drug trafficking, weapons trafficking, and money laundering organizations. The investigation and subsequent conviction of Brown and her co-defendants demonstrate the effectiveness of this program in combating organized crime.
