Izayah Dural, Fentanyl Distribution, Virginia 2024

GRIM NEWS: Chesapeake Man Sentenced for Fentanyl-Linked Teen Death

In a grim turn of justice, Izayah Dural, 23, from Chesapeake, Virginia, was sentenced to 20 years in prison today for distributing fentanyl-laden counterfeit pills that led to the death of a high school student.

Court documents reveal Dural supplied deadly fentanyl pills to C.W., a teenager, and several of his classmates. The tragic incident occurred on June 2, 2024, when C.W. ingested part of one of the pills and overdosed, succumbing to acute fentanyl toxicity.

“Izayah Dural’s actions displayed a chilling disregard for human life,” stated Erik S. Siebert, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. “Targeting minors with such lethal substances is unacceptable, and my office will not rest until those who endanger our youth are brought to justice.”

Ibrar A. Mian, Special Agent in Charge of DEA’s Washington Division, added, “Dural’s profit-driven pursuit of illegal drugs has dire consequences for innocent lives. The seizure from Dural could have claimed 40 lives, and we remain committed to dismantling drug networks that pose such a threat.”

Dural was apprehended on June 11, 2024, during a narcotics transaction in Norfolk, with 80 counterfeit Oxycodone pills and $7,870 in cash. A subsequent search of his residence yielded more fentanyl pills and a firearm.

This investigation was a collaborative effort by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Virginia Beach Police Department, and Norfolk Police Department. Senior U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson presided over Dural’s sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Olivia L. Norman and Patrick J. McGorman prosecuted the case.
