Bradly Dwayne Wimberly, a 32-year-old from Polk County, attempted to produce child sexual abuse material by communicating with someone he believed was a 13-to-14-year-old girl between February 15, 2024, and July 10, 2025. In reality, Wimberly was talking to an undercover Homeland Security Investigations special agent. The conversations took place online, where Wimberly repeatedly asked the minor to send him sexually explicit images and videos.
Wimberly’s disturbing attempts to exploit a child led to his guilty plea on May 4, 2026. As a result, he has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison, followed by 15 years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Thomas P. Barber.
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sarah Janette Swartzberg as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Project Safe Childhood aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, as well as identify and rescue child victims. The initiative has been ongoing since 2006 and is led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section.
