Clarksburg Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Child Pornography
A Montgomery County man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possessing child pornography. Robert Michael Busching, 26, of Clarksburg, Maryland, was sentenced on [date] by U.S. District Judge Theodore J. Chuang.
According to court documents, Busching used an internet-based cloud storage system to possess and access child pornography between February 13, 2014 and August 26, 2014. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a report in March 2014 about suspected child pornography files being uploaded to a cloud storage account accessed from Busching’s residence.
FBI agents executed a search warrant at Busching’s home on September 9, 2014, and seized his desktop computer. During the investigation, Busching admitted to creating two additional accounts and sharing links to them with others online. He also admitted to accessing cloud storage accounts containing over 600 images of child pornography on multiple occasions.
Busching was previously convicted of distributing child pornography and sentenced to seven years in prison in 2011, with all but five days suspended. He was also on supervised probation at the time of his arrest.
U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the FBI for its work in the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lindsay Eyler Kaplan and Kristi N. O’Malley prosecuted the case.
Busching must pay $5,000 in restitution to three victims whose sexual abuse was documented in some of the child pornography he possessed. He will also be required to register as a sex offender under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) upon his release from prison.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, please visit www.justice.gov/psc.
