COLUMBIA, S.C. — The grim halls of justice have met their match as John Edward Prigmore, 40, from Fort Lawn, has been handed a decade behind bars for possessing child sexual abuse material. This sentence comes after a relentless investigation by the South Carolina Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
Prigmore faced the long arm of the federal justice system after authorities executed a search warrant at his residence in May 2023. The digital evidence they unearthed was chilling, revealing an array of child sexual abuse material on Prigmore’s electronic devices.
This is not Prigmore’s first brush with the law. He has already been convicted of criminal sexual conduct with a minor at the state level.
United States District Judge Mary Geiger Lewis imposed a sentence of 120 months’ imprisonment, followed by lifetime supervision. Parole is non-existent in the federal system, and Prigmore was also ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution.
The case against Prigmore was part of Project Safe Childhood, a justice Department initiative that has been waging war on child sexual exploitation and abuse since May 2006. This nationwide effort leverages federal, state, and local resources to apprehend predators like Prigmore and rescue their innocent victims.
Homeland Security Investigations and the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office led the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott Matthews prosecuting the case.
