Fort Thompson man sentenced for Felon in Possession of Firearm.
A man from Fort Thompson, South Dakota, has been sentenced for a federal crime.
Christopher Allen Harrison, age 40, was sentenced to 46 months in custody, followed by 2 years of supervised release, and a special assessment of $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Harrison was convicted of Felon in Possession of Firearm, a federal offense, in the United States District Court, District of South Dakota, in 1998. This conviction made him a prohibited person and ineligible to lawfully possess any firearms.
The crime occurred on April 26, 2015, when officers from the Bureau of Indian Affairs received a call about Harrison’s behavior at a home in Fort Thompson. Harrison fired shots from a shotgun into the air, prompting a standoff with the officers.
A federal grand jury indicted Harrison on May 12, 2015, and he pleaded guilty on June 23, 2015.
Harrison was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after his sentencing on October 7, 2015.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Office of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges prosecuted the case.
