Angelia Zwick, Embezzlement Scheme, Ohio 2024

CINCINNATI – In a stunning turn of events, Angelia Zwick, also known as Angelia Strunk, 46, has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to a massive embezzlement scheme that saw her siphon off over $328,000 from her employer. Zwick faces a potential sentence of up to 23 years in prison for the elaborate fraud.

According to court documents, Zwick, who worked for Sheakley Group, Inc., from July 2009 through May 2013, concocted a scheme to embezzle funds beyond her authorized pay. She wired the stolen money to an account she controlled at Amerihealth and Life Solutions, LLC, a company of which Zwick was also a proprietor.

The monies were intended for workers’ compensation refunds belonging to her employer or its clients, but Zwick funneled them into her personal accounts. Her deceitful actions left her employer and clients out of pocket by more than $328,000.

Furthermore, Zwick filed false income tax returns with the IRS for 2010, 2011, and 2012, evading over $121,810 in additional taxes. The tax returns were riddled with lies, including the failure to report embezzled funds as income and the claiming of fictitious expenses for Amerihealth.

‘The IRS enforces the nation’s tax laws, but also takes particular interest in cases where someone, for their own personal benefit, has taken what belonged to others,’ said Frank S. Turner II, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the IRS Criminal Investigation, Cincinnati Field Office. ‘To build faith in our nation’s tax system, honest taxpayers need to be reassured that everyone is paying their fair share.’

Wire fraud is a crime punishable by up to 20 years in prison, while filing a false income tax return carries a potential maximum sentence of three years. U.S. Attorney Benjamin C. Glassman has commended the investigation by the IRS and U.S. Secret Service, as well as Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Mangan, who is prosecuting the case.
