Jobanis de Jesus Avila Villadiego, aka ‘Chiquito’ and ‘Chiquito Malo,’ is the undisputed kingpin of the Clan del Golfo, a ruthless Colombian cartel that’s been flooding the US with cocaine and bankrolling terrorist organizations. The latest superseding indictment slams Avila Villadiego with narco-terrorism conspiracy, providing material support to a foreign terrorist group, and more.
The Clan del Golfo, one of the most violent and powerful cartels in the world, has been wreaking havoc on the US since at least 2016. Since then, it’s brought in billions in illicit profits, largely thanks to Avila Villadiego’s leadership.
Avila Villadiego’s empire stretches far beyond cocaine trafficking, however. Prosecutors say he’s also bankrolled a designated foreign terrorist organization, effectively turning his narcotics empire into a terrorist financing operation.
The fifth superseding indictment, which expands the charges against Avila Villadiego, now includes narco-terrorism conspiracy, conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, and providing or attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization.
