Convicted Felon Caught with Stolen Firearm
Marquan Greggs, a 22-year-old Philadelphia resident, is facing serious consequences after his arrest on March 1, 2011. During a high-speed police chase, Greggs threw a stolen firearm into the 800 block of E. Hilton Street, leaving behind 10 rounds of ammunition.
The stolen firearm was just the tip of the iceberg for Greggs, a convicted felon on parole for two drug trafficking convictions. His reckless decision to possess a firearm has landed him a 78-month prison sentence, as well as a $1,000 fine, three years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment.
The case against Greggs was investigated by the Philadelphia Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ewald Zittlau led the prosecution, securing a guilty plea from Greggs on April 24, 2012.
U.S. District Court Judge Juan R. Sanchez handed down the sentence, citing Greggs’ egregious violation of parole. The court’s decision sends a strong message to individuals who choose to disregard the law and put public safety at risk.
Greggs’ case is a stark reminder of the consequences of gun violence and the importance of community policing. The Philadelphia Police Department’s tireless efforts to combat crime and keep citizens safe are evident in this case.
As the city continues to grapple with the aftermath of gun-related crimes, this sentence serves as a warning to those who would seek to exploit the system and put innocent lives at risk.
