New Orleans, LA – Covington’s Jaylon Carter, a 24-year-old drug kingpin, was handed a prison sentence of over five years for distributing deadly fentanyl. Carter faced stiff penalties after being caught selling ‘M30 blue pills’ containing the lethal substance.
Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that Carter was sentenced to sixty-three months behind bars, followed by three years of supervised release, and a $300 special assessment fee. The sentence stems from Carter’s guilty plea to distributing over forty grams of fentanyl-laden pills.
According to court documents, law enforcement received information in January 2024 that Carter was selling the lethal ‘M30 blue pills’ out of an apartment complex in Covington or his vehicle. St. Tammany detectives confirmed Carter’s residence and conducted three controlled purchases, leading to his arrest.
This investigation was a joint effort between the Department of Homeland Security Investigations and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney André Jones prosecuted the case, ensuring justice for the community affected by Carter’s drug trade.
Carter’s conviction serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against fentanyl distribution across Louisiana and the nation, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance and effective law enforcement measures to combat this dangerous epidemic.
The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Susie Morgan, who presided over the case. Carter’s actions have cost him his freedom, but they have also helped to keep others safe from the deadly consequences of fentanyl abuse.
