In a surprising move, Cynthia Ridgeway, First Assistant United States Attorney, has resigned from her position and joined Indianapolis-based Anthem, Inc. as a Corporate Strategy Director. Her departure marks the end of 15 years of service representing the United States of America.

For several years, Ridgeway prosecuted drug and violent crime matters under the supervision of John Dowd. She was later promoted to serve as Chief of the National Security Unit and litigated high-profile complex white-collar matters as a member of the General Crimes Section before being elevated to the position of First Assistant by U.S. Attorney Minkler.

Prior to her role with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Ridgeway was Special Counsel at the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office where she oversaw high-profile litigation, public relations, and served on the leadership team. Ridgeway was hired to serve the office directly following law school by Marion County Judge Sheila Carlisle. Additionally, Ridgeway served the office as Chief of the Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit under the leadership of Marion County Judge Lisa Borges.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has announced that Ridgeway’s resignation will not affect the ongoing cases she was handling. The office has assured that the transition will be smooth and that Ridgeway’s departure will not impact the delivery of justice to the people of Indiana.

The departure of Ridgeway marks a significant change in the leadership team at the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
