Dallas Killer Sentenced to Life for Murder of 19-Year-Old

A Dallas drug dealer has been sentenced to life in federal prison for the murder of a 19-year-old woman, authorities announced Tuesday evening. Freddie Gilbert, 36, was found guilty of murder, possession of a firearm, and other charges related to the October 2017 death of Jacquisha Isaac.

According to evidence presented at trial, Gilbert shot Isaac through the head while she was sitting in the passenger seat of his car on October 29, 2017. He then stashed her body in the trunk and took off, eventually driving over 110 mph down I-20. Investigators found Isaac’s blood inside the car, on Gilbert’s clothing, and on the revolver used to kill her.

The FBI’s Dallas Violent Gangs Safe Streets Task Force led the investigation, which involved the Texas Department of Public Safety, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, Drug Enforcement Administration, and Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys P.J. Meitl and Tiffany Eggers prosecuted the case.

“Far too often, drug trafficking spurs horrific acts of violence,” said U.S. Attorney Erin Nealy Cox. “In this case, a known cocaine dealer legally barred from possessing a weapon gunned down an innocent 19-year-old, then shoved her in the trunk like a piece of trash. He will spend the rest of his life behind bars.”

FBI Dallas Special Agent in Charge Matthew J. DeSarno added, “Today’s sentence should send a message to other violent drug dealers. The FBI will work with our law enforcement partners to protect the community through aggressive investigation and prosecution of violent offenders and drug traffickers.”

U.S. District Judge Jane Boyle handed down the sentence, which also included charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, and discharging a firearm during a drug trafficking crime. Gilbert was apprehended hours after the murder, and evidence at the scene linked him to the crime.

“This case is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of drug trafficking and violence,” said U.S. Attorney Nealy Cox. “We will continue to work tirelessly to hold accountable those who engage in this destructive behavior and put our communities at risk.”
